Comfortable ride with lowering springs?

OK. I am looking for a set of lowering springs for my 89 RS convertible. Want to drop it 1 inch all the way around to make it look good with the 18x10's. But I want to keep the nice comfortable ride. This is my daily driver/cruiser. I have my IROC for the fun stuff. I would like to do air bags. But no money for that right now. One of my friends told me to cut one coil off of each spring. But I don't know about that. I would rather find a set that has what I want. So what are my options.? Adam :-)

Re: Comfortable ride with lowering springs?

The ride from my Eibach springs is not too bad. Cant compare the ride to stock as they were on the car when i got it. As I understand,ALL,lowering springs will be of a higher rate than stock to compensate for the drop and keep the car from bottoming out. Cutting the stock spring WILL increase its rate also, however, i dont know if it will be as stiff as an aftermarket drop spring, all that math is above my want to know.

Re: Comfortable ride with lowering springs?

Got me a set of Hotchkis Sport Coil Springs. They lower the car one inch. Which is what I wanted. Plus I looked at the spring rates. And they are actually a little softer then my 87 IROC factory springs. So it shouldn't be that harsh. Now I just need to find the right strut/shock setup to go with that spring choice. Adam :-)
