power steering pump/box trouble!! help me please!

alright so what i have is a 91 rs with the stock steering box. it had a 305 in it but i yanked the 305 for a 383 . now my "new" motor came with an older-style p/s pump. is there any way to get this older p/s pump and my 91 steering box to work together? if not i was thinking about going with an s-10 manual box. but i was also thinking...could i just buy a replacement p/s pump from napa for a 91 camaro? would it bolt up to my new motor??? thanks in advance

the pump, just bolts to the motor, there is no reason why you cant use the origional one, or a new replacement one. with the right adapters you could prpbably make the one that came with the new motor work, but it would probably nickle and dime you to death, or go aftermarket

That pump should work fine or your old pump should work fine. Its all in the brackets. it seems the one that came with the 383 doesnt have all the requie brackets. and im sure your 305 if it was serpetine belt would need brackets to requie it to bolt striaght to the motor, along with a new pulley. Whay I would do and i have done this on my car now is go by a 78 chevy pickup 1/2 2 wheel drive Pump from oriellys, then use your pulley that came with your 383 put those two together and then order these bracets below and it will be a clea nice set up sits low on the motor, and yo know your pump or what not wont leak after its new, and the pump is only 48 bucks, Ill put a link to the brackets I used along with a pic of how it looks. I have it in my 87 Iroc, 89 chevy pickup and a 70 gmc stroker motor. just my opinion

I used Part # 402L

Piece of cake, easier then doing new lines.

The pressure control valve can be removed from the original '91 pump and installed into the 'old-new' pump. It unscrews from the back of the pump, then a second part of the pressure control valve then a spring.

The spring can stay, no difference in them.

Will need both the pressure control valve and the valve behind it from the pump. Note that the second piece is directional. The end with the fine screen goes into the pump first. Then the pressure control valve screws in.

The pressure control valve of course having the fitting for the high presssure line. And can now use the stock high pressure line.
