New engine, car sits high

Well I just finished dropping my new engine in the car and noticed how the front end sits up way too high. I have a 355 w/ alum heads and intake. Anyone out there who has swapped heads and intakes have the same problem? I'm thinking I would have to lower the front at least a good inch if not two.

Roll the car forward and back a few feet to allow the suspension to settle.

Re: New engine, car sits high

I installed new stock springs for a 5.0L 87 camaro and a 350sb with a 5spd into my 87 that had previously owned a 2.8L and a 5spd, and the car sits REALLY high.
I have driven it quite a bit since then, and it still sits high.
Any suggestions??

Re: New engine, car sits high

stock spring will sit the car up high. I had the Iroc replacement moog springs and i had about 4" of fender gap and the car looked like a freaking 4x4.

Re: New engine, car sits high

only way to "fix" it would be to put your old worn out springs back on the car. remember your car is 20 years old. and just like body parts they start to sag if when they get old. if you put lowering springs on it compared to your old stock ones chances are even those would be higher then your old worn out springs.

Re: New engine, car sits high

find a set from the p-nancy 4 or 6 cyl maybe that would work, id just spend the extra and get a lowering spring, either way keep an eye on the allignment either way you go

Re: New engine, car sits high

Wow, no. The car sits high on brand new springs, not the old ones. Cutting the old ones would make the crossmember drag on the ground. lol

Since driving it the car has sank like 1", but thats it. I think part of the "high" look in the front comes from an offset of the old springs that are still in the back. Im gonna put new springs/shocks in the rear and see where I'm at.

Eventually, I'm putting the Eibach Proline Lowering/Handling kit in it, so things should be slightly more adjustable. Also, I went to ROCKAUTO.COM and their parts catalogue shows that the 2.8L springs and 305 springs are ridiculously close in shape and size. They give all the measurements. Thusly, I think it's just the stiff spring blues I'm singin'.

Peace.

Re: New engine, car sits high

I know exactly what you mean. I went with aluminum heads, removed the A/C and smog pump, got rid of the TPI intake and put on a Miniram, and put on a fiberglass hood in my Z and the front end was really (ugly) high! That was on stock 92 Z28 springs. Last week I put on a Eibach pro kit and the rear stayed exactly the same ride height but the front end did come down 3/4 of an inch, so now she looks ok.
