Re: slicks up front
The stock 245/50R16, is about a 26" diameter, 10" section width/8.5" tread width tire, so that should fit fine, even if the car is dropped an inch.
You thinking autox slicks? Drag slicks would be horrible for handling, especially on the fronts, with the turning forces on them.

If you have a local autocross club, check around, or look up grassroot motorsports. You should easily be able to find a 3rd gen running autocross, to check out.
26.5" tire....That's SHORT!

Re: slicks up front
Are you sure that a slick is allowed? In SCCA you can only use a slick in C Prepared class. The other classes are using DOT approved tires. The common stock class tire is a 265 45 16 Kumho V710 which is 25.2". I would look for a set of 16" wheels if I were you.
just saw that you have a 406 engine so you are in a class that will allow a slick but bigger is always better an stock 16x8 wheels aren't that expensive to buy. They don't need to be pretty after all.
