would it be worth swapping all the suspension off of an iroc to an RS???

 

the only parts that may be different are the sway bars and the springs provided one car is a v8 and the other is a v6, everything else is the same, if you want better, go aftermarket.

 

Go for it if it is cheap. I got iroc fronts springs in my z28. Definite difference. Also have the larger 36mm sway bar and 24m rear.

 

Sway bars, yes; springs, no.

The IROC springs are just as wasted and used-up as your RS springs. They're AT LEAST 17 years old. Don't bother swapping them over. Given the amount of effort that that is, it makes no sense whatsoever to put yourself through all that, and still end up with nothing but yet another old worn-out wasted used-up set of springs.

Get a set of Moog 5662, or if you REALLY want to go for it, 5664. CC635 for the rear. You'll want new shocks and struts at the same time.

 

Some, but not all, Camaros had the 36/24 combo from 89-92.

Not all springs are fatigued to the point of junk. My IROC fronts are fairly stiff. Ironically, the IROC rears were fatigued and the rears in my Z28 weren't. Both NNL springs.

So I went from a soft front and stiff rear too the other way around. Just haven't gotten around to putting the stiff rears back in.

My car came with the 34/21 combo. It was a regular 305/A4 non-G92 car though.

 

No; only ones that are older than about 2 years, or have more than about 15,000 miles on them.

I doubt any IROC springs meet the qualifications. "Fairly stiff" isn't the same as "good" or "right" or "optimum".

My car came with 32/21 bars, and who knows what springs. They were dead when I got the car in 1985 (83 car) with 40,000 miles on it. I put the afore-mentioned combo in it in about 1987. I've only had to replace them once since then. Makes AHELLUVA difference.

 

well that iroc is mine and its just sitting there and its pretty much body and shell is rotted..and the struts in the rear of my RS are bad and i was thinkin what the heck why not...its not gonna cost me anything so ya

 

FYI, the springs that Sofa mentioned (and that I swapped in a couple of months ago) are cheap, just over a hundred for the pair. Along with some new struts and shocks you'll be surprised at how well these old cars will ride.

That's funny! To imply that springs are worn out, after 2 years or 15,000 miles.

I put 86 IROC springs, sway bars, and wonder bar, on my wife's 90 RS, while we were running autocross. They made a huge difference in the handling.

 

Of course they did!! They were stiffer to begin with.

Now go put a NEW set of springs on it; and see what happens. If you were impressed by those old worn-out used-up junk stockers, you'll REALLY be blown away by new ones. No comparison WHATSOEVER to old wasted ones.

 

According to you above, they were worn out, and junk. 16 years old (I did it in 2002, that makes them 14 years into the "junk" category) And, god knows HOW MANY MILES were on that 16 year old IROC.

I've run aftermarket springs before, and wasn't impressed by the handling improvement, compared to the cost of them.

To each his own....I'll keep cutting mine.
