Has anyone had problems due to incorrectly installed SFC's?

Has anyone had any problems due to incorrectly installed SFC's? Everyone says they should be installed with the car at ride height on a 4 post lift with the suspension/axle loaded normally.

What problems could it give if SFC's had been installed with a car on axle stands?

Could the chassis be stuck into a permanent twist or kinked way by the welded in SFC's?

Thanks,

Gordon / Dr G

Set the rear axle on jackstands, set the front tires on Cinderblocks or drive on ramps.

There you go, suspension is now preloaded. You can now install SFC's.

Just had a couple of welder friends do mine this weekend. Very much the same way, jacked up the front and set it on ramps (too steep to drive up), set the rear axle on jack stands.

Or if you have a shop do it, just have them put it on the alignment rack.

Good thing I read this, though! I will be getting SFC's sometime this year (whenever I get the money to buy SFC's, Wonderbar, Panhard, and STB all at once) and I was under the impression that you were supposed to lift the car by the subframes or some other part of the body!

Chaps, with respect, I'm not asking how to install them. I'm asking that if someone had installed them on axle stands (where you can't guarantee that things are 100% level) could this cause any problems and if so then what problems.

Long as your reasonably close to level it should be fine, heck if you check out most drive on lifts, especially older ones, they're not exactly level either. I did one set with ramps and jackstands and one set on the lift, never had a problem with either one. Try and at least approximate level though.

rhuarc31:- Thanks for the reply. I'm having some problems with the car and am wondering if they are because the guys who installed my Spohn and TDS SFC's did it with the car reasonably level on axle stands.

Can you describe the problems you're having?

Another concern is making sure your door hinges are in good shape. The doors are an intregal part of the chassis. If you have ever looked inside one, you'll find a large support bar running from the front of the door to the hinge. It's always a good idea to check your hinges before installing SFCs.

Ditto. Just did it on a car tonight this way with a set of Spohn's old SFC's.

Wesilva - The door hinges are in good shape as is the whole car really. Less than 40000 miles from brand new.

The problems I'm having are discussed in these two linked threads, please feel free to read them and make any suggestions you think are appropriate.
