can't find the tire size i want. help
i've been looking to put 255/50 in the front and 265 or 275 50 in the rear on ta 84 T/A with 16x8 factory wheels.
my problem is i can't find 265 or 275 50's. did they stop making these sizes?
i don't want 17"rims and i don't a 45 aspect tire.
can ya's help me out.
thanks. jay.

Re: can't find the tire size i want. help
Most poeple are putting the P245/50R16 on the front and P255/50R16s on the rear. A 265 or 275/50R16 will be too big in Diameter to work correctly on the rear. You need to think about this again. The P275/50R16 tire size is not in my Tire & Rim book. If you could find it, a P275/45R16 would be about the right diamteter, but its not in my book either and is too wide for 8" wide wheels anyway.

Re: can't find the tire size i want. help
275 is not to wide for 8" rim i had them on my stock 17x8 mustang wheels when i had it. and had no issues with rollover or the contact patch.drove it like that for 2 years. it was a 2000 gt. however a 50mm side wall might be to much, but not with a 45 series tire. (45 meaning sidewall hieght)
i would never go anymore than 275 on a 8". that is the max. but ur right with a 275/50,u might be more prone to the tire rolling over than u would with a 45 series. u would def have the contact patch compromised.
but with this car i don't want a 45 aspect even if i could get it.i don't want 17" rims either.i don't think the 45'st look good on these bodies. not enough side wall,so the 275 would be out.
now about the 255 in the front. i thought i saw poeple on here that were running them, but i can't remember if they were rubbing lock to lock. if it would then i would go 245 front and 255 rear.
thanks for ur reply.

Basically the same thing seems to be happening to 16" size choices, with the 17" & 18" becoming more common,as happened to 15" choices as 16" became more widely used. Then you have to take into account safe fitment on the wheel size, overall diameter unless you change speedometer gears and tire scrub front and rear - all of this as noted by Doc.

true.but to say that a 275 will not be safe on an 8" rim is giving false info. even a 16x8 rim could handle a 275mm tire as long as u go down in aspect from 50 to 45 and the contact patch will remain unchanged. anything more than 275 on a 8" rim i would worry.

WS6, if you would see the footprint of a 275 on an 8" wide wheel VS a 9.5" wide wheel, you would not be saying what you said. You dont know it, but you ran mostly on the center 3 ribs!
