tire rubbing wells
ok guys, a few months ago, i got a set of 28x11.50-15 hoosier QTPs mounted on a pair of 15x8 prostars with 4.5" bs.. i have over 1 inch of clearance infront of the tire as well as about 1/2-3/4" inside.. i am using BMR adjustable LCA's with poly bushings front and back, Spohn LCARB's on the middle hole, and a tranny mounted Spohn TA..
on the launch, the tire travels all that distance and rubs the inner fender(1" forward and 1/2" inward) and my exhaust which is about 1.25" infront of the tire.. question is HOW THE HELL IS IT DOING THAT??? that is a very far distance for the tire to be traveling.. what should i do?? this is a manual car, 60ft was 1.65, then all 1.69 and up.. car is still spinning the tires for the most part and i'm afraid that if the car hooks better, it might pop the tire.. i was thinking of just getting rod end LCA's but thats $250 plus shipping.. was also considering a spohn drag rear sway bar..
any help would be appreciated..
EDIT: its only the drivers side tire

Re: tire rubbing wells
that is a bias ply tire isn't it? centrifical force could cause the tire to "grow",
but you say only on one side??

Re: tire rubbing wells
there shouldnt be a whole lot of tire growth at 116mph should there?? also, the rubbing is not only forward, its forward and inward.. like sidewall to inner fender.. and my exhaust is solid mounted to the body.. there is almost NO movement of that..
do you think its the poly bushings?? i know its flexing because there is dirt pushed away from the bushing on both the frame and the rearend..

Re: tire rubbing wells
Do you have an adjustable panhard rod? If not that may help so you can get everything centered perfectly side to side and front to rear. Once I lowered my car I needed adjustable LCA's and panhard hard to get everything centered the way I wanted.

Re: tire rubbing wells
When your car launches it twists the body to the right, when this happens, the wheel well on the passenger side drives downward onto the tire and the opposite on the drivers side, it`s distance grows. At 116 your are probably seeing 1/2- 3/4 of an inch of growth at the center of the tread, your sidewall or section shouldn`t get any bigger, slightly smaller if any.
A anti roll bar will help with the twist, you could also preload a factory sway bar to combat the twist.
