Re: Back Halfing 85 camaro -(Narrowing for MT SPORTSMAN Sr 33X22.00R20LT)

Okay guys....change of heart here. I have decided not to go with a drag race set up for the rear end. I sill plan on narrowing the rear, so I am still going to back half this car. But, I have plans on lowering the car, and running some low profile MT Sportsman SR's and set the suspension up for handling corners rather than for launch. I figure I can make adjustments and add hardware for launch. Nevertheless, I want to focus primarily on handling.

Can anyone tell me what is the best rear end set up for performance cornering. Thanks, and I appreciate all the input I have received thus far.

Exactly what you have under the car right now with some aftermarket replacement parts. Narrowing the diff and performance cornering don't go in the same sentence.

ok you want vette like handleing, either buy a vette, or just put the whole rear suspension from a vette in the camaro, and those tires you mentioned will not corner well no matter what you do.http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1∂=MTT%2D12165475&N=700+4294923105+4294793324+4294794985+115&autoview=sku

these are about the only wheels that would be that wide with low enough profile to handle ok but that would be ruined by the massive weight of the assemblys that much unsprung rolling weight it will drive rough, be slow and the brakes would suck, go a different route.

these posts make me smile. You want handling replace everything and run some aftermarket parts on all suspension pieces, search search search. 33s belong on a 4x4 not a vehicle for the twisties. How are you going to backhalf the car if you don't realize the reason behind it?
