i have the 17x9.5 zo6 wheels with skulte 2 1/4" spacers all the way around i also have 275/40r17 tires. i was wondering if i would be able to drop the car 1 inch with a hotchkis kit. the tires do rub a little bit now lock to lock. the reason im asking is because in an older chevy high performance magazine i think a 1999 issue, i was reading that they put wheels with a 5.5 inch backspacing and 275/40r17 tires all the way around. and they said with the right amount of backspacing you could lower the car 1 inch with a little bit of tie rod adjustment and not rub at all. would i be able to lower my car with my setup?

 

For whatever it's worth, the front right tire on my TA rubbed when I got it, but after I installed my Eibach springs, no more rub. It has GTA wheels on it. Go figure....

 

I have 18x9.5 Z06 rims on my camaro with the eibach pro kit, and theres no rubbing,nd it used to rub with the stock Irocs on it. I think youll be fine.

 

My car has the mods in my sig with 275/40R17s on the ZR1s. Here is a pic of the only place it rubs:


And that's just at full lock.

 

The way I see it the springs shouldn't have anything to do with rubbing. You should be able to pull the springs and cycle the suspension through it's full range of travel without hitting anything. It's the job of the bump stops and steering stops to keep things from getting too chummy. If you are relying on the springs to keep the tire out of the fender then it's just a matter of when you'll eventually rub.

With that said, my brother runs 17x9.5 zo6 wheels with 2" spacers all around and has no rubbing issues other than the previously mentioned rear fender well plastic. we heated and massaged this area to eliminate the anoying sound, as the rubbing isn't really anything to worry about. He is running 285's, so your 275's might clear the fender lips. This is the area you should be concerned about, it would suck to cut a tire going 70+ in a turn. You might have to do a little fender well lip rolling to really be safe.
