anyone using REAL coilover mounts in the rear?
weld on ones Like these...
I`m mini tubbing my car and have a universal set from QA1 and was wondering if anyone ever cut off the stock shock mounts and used something like these?

I've seen several on ls1tech. Honestly there aren't many wild rides on this website at all, so I've given up asking high level tech questions on tgo. Just not enough fast cars on here with different setups. I noticed in your pics that you didn't cut all the way to the factory shock mount yet, so unless you're going wider than that, I'd leave it how it is. I plan on cutting all the way to the shock mount, then welding in metal for the rear frame "rail" area again, should be 15.5" wide or so with offset LCAs. I will be using the smaller diameter springs from the wolfe race craft kit. If you look around on ls1tech you'll see several people running much wider tires with the coilover setups to give you an idea of what is involved.

You'll have to remove the panhard bar to use them. The shock won't fit between the axle tube and the panhard bar. You'll also need to fabricate and install an upper shock mount. You'll then need to fabricate something to keep the diff centered in the car to replace the panhard bar.
I use brackets like that but I've also done a complete back half on my car.

I was meaning in the stock location, sorry for the confusion. I will check over at LS1 like xpndbl3 suggested also.

There's no reason they can't be installed on the front of the axle. One of the local race cars has the shocks in front of the axle because he has no room at the rear.

fitting coil overs in the stock location with the adjustable mounts is next to impossible, for a all out race car where you don`t mind cutting to make room, it is fine though. I welded the mounts on and mocked up the shocks....seems like a good idea until you realize just how little real estate is there actually. Never the less I`m pressing on to make them work since it is a dedicated drag car. Of course the stock mounts had to be removed and while I was at it I decided to clean off the stock spring mounts as well...this axle is roughly shortened by 4 inches also.
