Bolt sizes etc.

anyone know of a list or diagram which illistrates the grade and type of bolts used in the front suspension? I am rebuilding my front K-member now from the powder coaters and would like to use stainless steel or just new bolts. Any help is appriciated.

Thanks,

Blake

Re: Bolt sizes etc.

most of the metric stainless products out there are too soft for use on suspension components.
id recommend going with grade 10.9 stuff.
you can get nice washer headed hex bolts from john deere, and the CAT dealers.

Re: Bolt sizes etc.

Allen head capscrews are typically made in the 180,000psi tensile (grade 9) strength, even stainless. I'd look at that.

Otherwise, coated 10.9 or 12.9 bolts, use high strength washers, and DEFINITELY use anti-seize.

I think most bolts that require strength are 10.9 or 12.9 in the front suspension, the exception being stuff like the little ones that hold brake lines to your k-member, etc.

Re: Bolt sizes etc.

i understand your dilemma . i am a retired acft. mech. and i too would be glad to find or buy chart for bolt size/strength . oh well , can't go wrong with overkill on bolt and nut strength . don't forget the best bolt is the worst with the wrong grade nut . oh well , anybody know of such a chart ????
