Torque Arm
Torque Arm
Hello,
I just bought a 89 RS in late Oct. I bought it with the full intention of building a drag car out of it. While I want somewhere around a 9 second car, I am looking at trying to clean up and fix stuff on it right now.
The question I have now is what do I need to do to replace the bushing/mount for the torque arm on the tranny.
I know the book says to take the springs out so the axle won't wrap. I am curious to know if I can put a jack stand towards the tranny to hold it up.

Re: Torque Arm
Jack the rear of the car up high; support the chassis with a pair of jack stands under the places where the control arms attach to the body. Let the rear end hang free. Put your floor jack under th epumpkin, and jack it up an inch or 2; just enough to lift the whole thing up off of the shocks' extension limit. Put 2 more jack stands under the axle tubes; not the shock brackets, not the control arms, not anything else, but the AXLE TUBES. Supported this way, there's no more than 5 or 10 punds of force on the front of the control arm; you can move it around with one finger while you deal with the bolts.
