Quick Spohn T/A question
Quick Spohn T/A question
Hey guys. So many members here are using the Spohn adjustable torque arm, I figured I'd ask on the boards before bugging Steve about it. I've got a chance to pick up a very lightly used Spohn adj. t/a and crossmember from a local guy for a killer price. The only possible issue is that it has the spherical rod end instead of the poly bushing where the t/a mounts to the crossmember. My car is more a street cruiser than anything else, so I'd really prefer the poly bushing since it'd be quieter going down the road. Does anyone know if you can just swap out the rod end for the poly end using the same t/a? I'd gladly pay Steve for the poly end if it'll hook right up. TIA for any advice you can offer.

Have you tried driving it with the solid rod end. My car has had a solid one on since it was my daily driver and I never noticed any noise from it.
Re: Quick Spohn T/A question
you dont get much noticable noise from solid mounts but you will get more vibrations and feeling of the road more. nothing crazy you just dont have that bushing absorbing that stuff any more.

think about that. Re: Quick Spohn T/A question
Sweet! Thanks for the advice guys.
Yeah, I'm probably worrying prematurely. I'll give it a shot with the rod end first. If it does end up bugging me, JamesC gave me a link for everything I need to swap it to the poly mount. Thanks for helping a dummy like me navigate Spohn's site James! I've got a TKO 5 speed all ready to go in as soon as the weather breaks. Once I pick up this crossmember-t/a setup, I'll have everything I need to do it. Man, I can't wait to bang through the gears with the TKO this spring!
P.S. When I did a search, it appears that the rod ends are mostly noisy if you have them on the LCA's.

Re: Quick Spohn T/A question
rod end lca is only noisey is you run a cheap set.
most companies run a quality FK or aurora sp? end.
id be willing to buy the rod ended piece and its bushings should you go to a poly.

Sure, no problem. I'm probably gonna pick it up from the guy tonight after work. It'll be a while before it goes in the car though. We're up to our necks in snow around here at the moment.
I'm shooting for April sometime to get the trans in. I want to at least run it with the rod end to see what it's like. I'll keep you posted.
