RE: Spohn SFC Install Pics & A Few Questions

I was going to post this in the Spohn SFC pic request thread, but figured I'd just start another one so I didn't thread jack the other guys post. Here are some pics...

I had the install done at Tracy Muffler and Xtreme Trucks. He did everything for only $70 which I thought was a great deal. I was expecting to pay a lot more...

After looking at the pics of other installs I was wondering if mine should have been welded to the floor pan on the crosstube. Is that necessary or will it be alright the way it is? I had prepped them by mocking them up in my garage and marking where I thought the welds would be and doing all the grinding for him. I did not grind the middle of the crosstubes, so that's why he did not weld there...

Another thing is what do you guys recommend for rust prevention on the welds? I planned to shoot it with some white and black Rustoleum. Would that be effective enough?...

Re: Spohn SFC Install Pics & A Few Questions

Another thing I thought was pretty cool. I was removing the panels in the trunk area and found this. I didn't even know it was in there...

Looks like it was never even touched before. I wonder if it'll hold air? What's the shelf life on these CO2 canisters?...

Re: Spohn SFC Install Pics & A Few Questions

Well I only drove it home, which was about 2 miles. I didn't have the interior in other than the drivers seat and no seatbelts. I'm waiting for the wife to get home so I can finish up putting everything back in (daddy duty). It's hard to describe just yet, but it did feel different on the ride home...

That's kinda what I figured too...

I went ahead and touched up the welds with some Rustoleum. Looks stock to the untrained eye which was my intention...

Well it's got less than 27,000 original miles and was garaged it's entire life. It was senior citizen owned and he only drove it to the golf course and never in the rain. It's funny, when I was taking out the interior, I found like 4 of those little pencils and 2 golf score cards...

I had a chance to take it for a spin yesterday and I can say it feels much more solid. This is a worthwhile mod in my book. The front strut tower brace made a big difference too. This car handled great before, but now it's on rails...

Darn man... That spare and tool set is in nice shape! You MIGHT be ok with that spare...give it a try! Mine wouldnt blow up correctly. It would just blow up, and it would shift to the side...almost like the beads broke and the rubber was off to the side. Im assuming all the years of being deflated and being dry rotted killed it.

Re: Spohn SFC Install Pics & A Few Questions

You're spare setup looks to be in excellent condition. As for the Co2 it is most likely seeped out over the years. Throw a couple of cans of Fix-a-Flat in your car to compensate. Just put them where they will not get too hot!

Re: Spohn SFC Install Pics & A Few Questions

Will you please put your car on a rotissorie so I can eat off its floorpans? Those are freaking CLEAN!!!

I've got a set of Spohn SFC's that i haven't installed yet. I really should. I'm also considering some of the structural stiffening foams out there to fill the front subframes, but that would be after all welding is done on the car as that stuff is flammable.

Is it only welded to the pinch? Or are they welded on the other side of the SFC to the floor boards as well?

Re: Spohn SFC Install Pics & A Few Questions

Are your SFC up against the floor? I was thinking of installing Spohn SFC in my car and I want to have some easy places to weld to and yours looks just like what I want, but I didn't think they hung that much lower than the pinch weld. Also could you get a picture where the camera is even with the bottom of the side GFX just so I can get an idea of how low they will be and if they will nag down at all? I like the stock look with goodies tucked away.

Thanks,
Mike

You literally have to look under the car to even see them. When looking straight on you cannot see them. They hang less than an inch lower than the lower rocker panel GFX...

I tried to get a good pic but the white on black did not work in my garage with the flash. You could not even see the SFC so I made a pic with a tape measure. The grey line is where the SFC is. They are pretty much tucked up to the floor panel and hugging the lower pinch weld...

Don't know if you already figured this out, but the spare tire in our birds blow up the way your describing, the first time I had to use mine I killed the compressor (12V) did some brief thinking and plugged it back in, sure enough it evened out and was able to use the spare...
