play in tilt steering

play in tilt steering
i have play/movement in my steering column at the tilt joint. movement is not as bad in the full up or full down position but in the middle setting, where i have it set while driving, there is a lot of play. i don't think just removing the steering wheel is going to do me any good because the play/movement seems futher down the column right at the tilt lever. is there a bushing to replace or a nut to tighten or is a complete steering column replacement the only way to get rid of the play, i used the search function with no luck but i would
