Difference Between TPI and TBI STBs

Is there a way to physically see the difference between a STB for a TPI and a STB for a TBI/Carb without mounting it? I have a Hotchkis unit and there is no part number to be found. The original box with the part number is long gone. To make matters worse, I just sold my car so I have no 3rd gen to try it out on.

Re: Difference Between TPI and TBI STBs

The TPI one's I've seen go straight across from one strut tower to the other, since there's no air cleaner in the way. The TBI/Carb ones I've seen form a triangle, and the cross bar comes farther forward than the strut towers, to clear the air intake. If you post a picture of it, I'm sure someone here will recognize it.

There is only one TBI brace that i know of. Its edelbrock 5227. The rest are TPI.

If it doesnt look like a 14" air cleaner will fit in the middle of it, it wont work. You can also get 3 point TPI ones btw.... If you post a pic, i could tell you right away what its for.

Thanks for the input, fella's. Judging by your descriptions, I must have a TPI unit. Since I already posted the pictures on another thread, it won't let me post here but here is the link to the photos.
