295 tires on 16x9.5

I plan on widening my 16x8 inch stock rims to 16x9.5 on the back rims only and put 295/50/16 tire on them from bfgoodrich http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfg/vehicleInfoSubmit.do here they are. So with this i think if i put 1.5 inch spacer on each side in the rear which is the width i am widening them so would this fit and not rub. correct me if i am wrong

You can run the BFG 295/50R16s on the stock 8" wheels, no spacers.

I realize that BFG claims you can run that size on 8's. But having 2" of sidewall bulge per side would make me very nervous. Particularly in a performance car.

Re: 295 tires on 16x9.5

I dont know if i would go a whole 1.5" spacer. Theres a fair bit of room on the inside of the fender for the rubber to tuck in. Since the mounting position will be the same, i would suggest mounting the wheel and seeing how close it is to the outside of the fender, and see if your happy with it. I think the wheel would stick out if you went with a 1.5".

Get them widened, and decide on a spacer later.

Just to give you an idea, my 17x9.5s in the rear have a 275 on them, they used to have a 285 on them, and id imagine a 295 would be almost identical. They have an almost 3" lip on the outside of the wheel, so id imagine a good 6" of backspacing. And they JUST fit. About a pinky finger's width away from hitting anything.

It's the sidewall height that allows it to fit. A 295/30 would NOT fit a 8" rim. Look at what 4x4s do, in regards to tire width compared to rim width.

It's the H rated treads & pattern that bugs me.

So do you think it would look better on a 17x9.5 rim than a 8 inch rim?
