Tire width question
Forgive me if this was asked already, I didn't serach to hard for an answer, just a quick browsing.
Anyhow, I am going to put some wide tires on the back of my 1985 Trans Am. I was wondering what is the widest you can go on a 15 inch rim without modifying anything? I am sure someone here has or had experience doing this.
Someone where I work said I should try 295 50 15. I figured I'd better ask 1st before trying it.
Thanks

Re: Tire width question
295 50 15 will fit on a 8-10" rim. However, the 295 is .6" taller than the stock tire which will cause your speedo to be a bit out.
A 275 50 15 is almost as wide and has the correct height (25.9").

Re: Tire width question
Factory rims are 7" wide.
A 275/50 will have about 10.5" of tread. A 7.5-9.5" rim should be used.

Re: Tire width question
My rims are 15 x 7 factory. I am going to get 275 or 295 so I think I will go with a 15 x 8 or 15 x 9 rim for the rear. I am keeping my 245's on the front.
