passenger door binding, twisted frame?

i thought id ask here before i installed my SFC's next week. The car had both its doors open and close like a charm. No accidents, or anything. They both opened effortlessly, and closed without any drama.

However the car was up on stands over the winter for my T56 install. The front wheels were on the car, and they were sitting on ramps. The rear wheels were off the ground, and the car was supported on the rear subframe, JUST before (forward) of the control arm.

The car was lowered yesterday, and after washing i went to open the passenger door, it felt like it was locked. I made sure it wasnt, and i pulled harder, and sure enough it opened. Its binding somewhere, but there no paint scracthes on the door, or the door jamb. Its ONLY happening to the passenger door.

Has the frame twisted? Can i tell which way? If so, how? I have no idea WHERE its binding, but i know it is.

You could try to lift the car up on one side slowly and see when the door opens normal. Maybe you could even bend it back doing it like that!

i really doubt you twisted anything, when you jack up the car and lower it onto the jackstands on the frame by the control arms, watch and see how much the metal moves when you lower it. It moves quite a bit.

Take the car for a spin, if you can, let the suspension settle and then check again. I think you are fine

Re: passenger door binding, twisted frame?

Insurance goes on today, so i think i might do that.

I have noticed that the metal moves QUITE a bit. I was able to flex the floors underneath when bracing to tighten a bolt. But hopefully all is well. I was just concerned because im installing SFC's real soon.

Will keep you guys updated.

Re: passenger door binding, twisted frame?

Thanks for all the help. As you suspected, it just needed some time to settle in. 2 days later, the door opens just fine.
