What Are The Original Wheels For An '88 IROC?
I have an 1988 IROC-Z. The wheels are the IROC 5 spoke with the single "stripe" on each spoke. Someone over on CZ28.com says they are not the original wheels.
Which are the original ones then? The "double stripe" wheels?

Ok guys correct me if I'm wrong but this is what I determined when restoring my 89 Iroc.
The 88-89 Iroc are the five spoke with the 2 stripes or groves. They were available in 15 & 16 in sizes. 87 and before used the single stripe. 90 and later used a wheel simular to the 88-89 but they're almost flat with no dish.

Yeah it's personal preferance. I liked the singles a little better but the doulbes were right for my year. The really have grown on me and now I like them better. You don't see them as frequently as well. If you pick some up be prepared to spend $600+ for a good set and around $400 for a set that needs refinishing. That was my experiance.
The 88-89's are fairly easy to refinish and look great when done. Mine are polished with silver insets.
Also If you get some you may consider getting four fronts and two rears (they have different offsets) I refinished all 6 and so I have four fronts wheels with z-radials on the car (so I can rotate them) and some stickies tires on the two rear wheels. That way I still have a complete set of the "correct" front/rear off set wheels.

There are places that refinish them but it gets fairly expensive. I just stripped the clear and paint with aircraft stripper and then sanded the machined surfaces with wet paper 320, 600, 800 then 1000 then buffed them with some jewlers rouge and finally buffed them by hand with Mother's polish. Between the buffing and polish I taped the polished surfaces up and sprayed the rough parts with silver wheel paint. It took a couple weeks to complete but they are much better looking than stock but still look stock. If you know what I mean.
I did not put clear coat on them and re-polish them with Mother's about once a year. It actually holds up well and the shine is incredable. At certian times I can see the light reflecting onto cars next to me on the road!

My '88 came with the 16" dual-line version as stock fitment.
If you don't have any major damage to the rim surface and the clearcoat is all that's failed, i would redo them yourself. Like antman said, strip them down and polish them up. You could buy a good polishing kit with all the materials you need and save a ton of money over having someone else do it for you.
