rear bump stop help

For some reason my car never had rear bump stops on it (meaning either the rubber cracked off the metal or someone intentionally removed them). There was a metal bracket bolted on in its place. After noticing them missing i got a set of bump stops from a fellow TGO member from a 90 formula (mine is an 85 FB). I finally tried fitting them yesterday and they don't fit. The holes are the right distance but there is a deep cutout on the bottom of the bumpstop plate so it does not meet the frame flat.

I went to the dealer today and looked it up and according to him 90 and 92 used the same part # as 85, but there was also a "spacer" listed. I am now wondering if that bracket on my car was maybe the spacer instead of the bumpstop bracket with the rubber missing? BUt then for some reason 92 did not use the spacer

Can anyone shed some light on this for me as to how them mount and if they are all the same no matter the year or suspension or wheel package?

thanks.
