new strut question
ok i have just bought new KYB struts and have a few questions
1. IN the instruction sheet it SHOWS that i have to drill a hole in the strut and drain something out, do i need to do this and why?
2 what are the two bolt sizes for the struts down by the brake caliper? i want to replace them with SS when i put the new ones on
THx

Re: new strut question
I have no idea why they want you to drain the strut. I take it this would be the old ones? I can't see doing that to the new ones. Having changed the struts I've never drilled them.
For the bolts: 16mm, about 3-1/2" long, course thread, grade 10.9 (basically grade 8). Nuts are crimped for locking with a large shoulder. Also has a thick washer under the bolt head.

Re: new strut question
HI, I don't know why you would drill a no strut but It brings a idea to me. My buddy has a mustang with 90/10 front struts and it pulls the front end up when hes given her. so If I drilled a hole in the stock strut and drained of 3/4 of the oil would it be like a 90/10 or a drag strut?

Re: new strut question
A little more info on the strut to spindle bolts along with the proper length:
The length is 3" (under head to end of threads).
They are a torque to yield bolt: 125 ft/lb, then 120 deg turn, must exceed 148 ft/lb during the 120 deg turn. Otherwise bolt is bad.
GM states in the '92 service manual to replace the bolts, washers and nuts after each removal.
