Was just digging through a box os Misc. parts that were included when I bought my Z28 and found a package labeled as, "Energy Suspension front lower control arm bushing - Polyurethane".
Are these worth the time to put on?

If your car still has factory rubber bushings, yes.

To get the full handling benefit of urethane you should replace pretty much all your bushings but hey this is a start. Later.

About anything other bushing than the rear control arm bushings.
I put these on mine recently and they helped some.

I'm looking at this kit:

Is that gonna be what I need?
Also a random question, but what happens when your stock rubber bushings wear down to the FUBAR point? I noticed sometimes when I put my car in reverse, it car jolts and a creaking sound can be heard cokming from the rear. Also very rarely but every once in awhile when I am backing out and go to turn the wheel a creaking can be heard from the front.

What will the installation of these actually do to improve the car?

Any new bushings will tighten the car up. Some people complain the poly bushings squeak

they will tighten the car up but that also means it will ride a little stiffer. i have herd mixed reviews on poly bushings for daily drivers. great for the track but not real practicle on the road. your call!!!

Some, like me, can't do without them. They give the car a more controled feel. It adds some precision, where there is little when you are stock.
An added Bennie, as has been noted, a lot of your bushings could be ready fo replacement.
Don't forget your sway bar end link bushings. Time WILL do a number on them (be they rubber or poly).
An out of the way place to look, is your tranny mount. These can wear out, without one noticing (the clue is your shifter moves around when ou tromp the throttle).
I started with the sway bar bushings, and they sucked me into eventually doing them ALL.

Short of my motor mounts, I've had just about all my bushings replaced with poly bushings. You could certainly tell it was tighter, but you could also tell there was a LOT more road noise. You REALLY need to determine what your goals are. If you're not going to race the car regularly, there's no shame in replacing old rubber bushings with NEW rubber bushings.

I have poly bushings on my front control arms, on one end of my panhard bar and on all the sway bar bushings/endlinks. They do squeak from time to time and the ride is a little harsher than rubber. However, I like it more that way. I don't think I'd do poly on the engine or trans mounts because of the added vibration. I used to have poly bushings on a set of tubular control arms, and I didn't like that at all (other than the reduced flex over the stock stamped pieces).
