my shocks and struts
so I just put on kyb-gr2s on the front and rear including strut mounts. I still feel every bump in the road, pretty dissappointing. What can I do or what needs to be replaced to make a more comfortable ride? thanks

Re: my shocks and struts
Springs maybe, also most guys that cant afford to buy Expensive shocks throw the GR-2 struts up front and the Gas Adjusts in the rear with a set of Pro Kit springs from Eibach. Thats the exact setup i have on the way to my house. Your never going to not feel everything unless you spend big $$$.

Re: my shocks and struts
I know this going to make me sound like a jackass but here goes anyway. I am continually amazed that people will put a "performance upgrade"(ie. higher pressure/stiffer valving) shock/strut combo on these cars thinking it will ride smoother. The least harsh ride you can get will be with ElCheapo stock replacement units. Then it will still be a stiff ride---like James says just the nature of these beasts.

It's a sports car, not a Cadillac, and a almost 30 year old design at that. It's not going to be a 'comfortable' ride. But, the advantage of the sports car is the handling.

Re: my shocks and struts
KYB GR2 shocks are one of the HARDEST hitting shocks on the market. I bought mine becasue I cant afford ones that make the car handle and hit nice. So I bought ones that would just handle, I dont care about a smooth ride, I like to feel the road.
But KYBs were deffinetly not the nest choice for a smooth ride. My stock springs are a lot softer then my brotehr's IROC springs. Look for the non IROC or T/A springs I think they are made for a smoother ride, then get cheapest shocks possible.

I don't know if I'd reccomend getting the cheapest shocks possible, but if what he said is true about the KYBs, I'd look into something like KONI or Bilstein. You'll probably get an imporved ride and handling.

Re: my shocks and struts
So if the KYB gas are pretty good for the rear then what about getting some for the back and some nice Koni for front or should they all be the same brand. Later.

Re: my shocks and struts
I put kyb agx on all 4 corners. With them on the softest setting It rides pretty smooth, on the hardest setting you need a kidney belt!! LOL I also put on eibach sportlines. I dont know if they helped or hurt the ride, but it sure helps the handling!!

Re: my shocks and struts
I'd get KONIs on all four if I were doing any at all.

Re: my shocks and struts
I prefer the kyb's myself as I autocross. Thats just my opinion, though (Also, most of the people I race with, too) If the ride is too harsh do what I did; Bet a v-8 trailblazer. The ride is great and it doubles as my racecar puller.

Re: my shocks and struts
I've been autocrossing my 87 IROC on stock shocks/struts and springs for about a year now and will finally be installing some new parts for the last two events of the year; Oct 12 and 19. I'll be putting on the Koni Yellows, the Eibach Pro-kit, J&M strut mounts, a new torque arm and tranny bushing (they are half gone) and a 9-bolt disk rear with 3.27 gears. I'm hoping it will be an improvement, and at 17, my body is still young enough to handle the abuse bumpy roads can dish out.
Seriously though, if you can't afford the Konis, the KYBs are a decent alternative. They may not be the best choice for lowered vehicles but they are a good product for the $. The big thing for me was the fact that Koni offers a lifetime warrenty. Last set of shocks I will ever buy.
