replacing steering box
I am going to replace the steering box in my 91 RS convertible because it has all kinds of play in it, and I'm not sure which box to get. I read in the stickies that the boxes differed based on the factory tire size, but the orielly aprts database doesn't mention that. They list two pumps, one "with soft ride suspension" one "without." It lists hte same two regaardless of whether you search for an RS or a Z28, 5.0/5.7. My car has 16" wheels ( I assume they are factory) but I don't know anything about soft ride suspensions.)
Lastly, If it's all the same I'd rather get a tighter, more responsive steering box. I really don't like the play in the steering. The links to the two boxes are below. thanks.

this subject has been trashed/thrashed/beaten up/many times . my thoughts , and only my thoughts are as follows . make sure all other parts of steering system are good/or new . make sure all other items of play are good . remove top of steering box , clean/flush/blow out all trash/gunk . don't mess with internals , just look and inspect . if all looks good , as it most likely will . replace lube ( your choice ) , replace cover . adjustment screw on cover , tighten 1/16 turn , set jam nut , check it out , tighten more or less as required . has worked for me in the past . there can be play in the column as well . good luck .

Hmmm...htey work when I click on them. Here they are again:

I did all that first. Had the steering box professionally adjusted, replaced center link, wheel bearings, ball joints, had rest of suspension professionally inspected. the steering column is good. there is still so much play that it is almost unsafe to drive the car. The steering box is only $130 on orielly. Sounds worth it to me. Thanks for the reply.
Anybody know whether I should go for the box the box that says with or without soft ride suspension?
