They've done a b-e-a-utiful job on the car man. My frame-connectors that were in my vert were done exactly the same way.

I spy a TH400. I don't think you'll regret that. I have always liked them, even with the blower motor leaning on 4's in the 1/8. I'm doing some upgrades on mine now so that it can handle pushing the car on to mid 4's.

You have a good eye Shagwell. That was a mock-up TH400 that they used to make the trans crossmember. I have a full manual TH400 with a Nitrous Holeshot 3600 converter ready to go in. This trans was in the car since the 406 went in, about 3 yrs. ago.

 

I'm a TH400 guy and I build my own. I've just never met a PG I couldn't break within a weekend, maybe two. Back in the day when my old man super comp raced we spit 2 TCI's and a JW in 4 passes, I know they have come a long way with parts for them, but that left a bad enough taste. Besides, I went bottom 5's on nothing more than a 34 element sprag, decent clutches and a rev/brake vb. - I came to the realization that I'd preffer to loose a little power and carry a little extra weight than to find the reason they came out with trans cooler quick connects.

 

LOL. You can sink alot of money in a PG.

What engine is going in it and when it is post a video of a massive burnout how much do you have in it already to have and idea to tell my dad if we do that to his el camino

 

I have a 500+ hp 406 small block that will go back in when the time comes. Several years after this phase I may build a blower motor, and do a full cage.

Tires at $700.00 a pair will not see too many "massive" burnouts, but I'll be sure to get something on video.

As for the price... It all depends on what you want. Find a good chassis shop and ask them for a quote. If you can do the work yourself you could save alot of money, but you may not be happy with the end result. If you get it done by a professional the car may sell for more money if you decide to sell it. The cost to back half your dad's el camino would be different than a third gen camaro anyway.

With all the money I spent on the back half I do not regret it.

I like the exhaust a lot.

 

It has been awhile since an update. Money is still tight, and I don't have a lot to throw around. Here are a few shots of the Flamming River battery disconnect switch and the fuel pump. The pump is a Holley HP 150 wrapped in blue masking tape to prevent scratches on the chrome. The bracket for the switch is aluminum and will be polished before final assembly.

Thanks. I don't have the money to repaint the whole car. I'll get the quarters faded in I guess. I have a pile of parts that will end up at the powder coaters including the axle housing.

i think that most people would not even THINK to race you if they saw you driving around just because of the intimidation factor of the tires.
you could have a stock engine for all they know, but those tires will turn away a lot of potential races

 

I want to make some big power with it later on. I wanted to make sure I had a good solid foundation that I could throw some power at.

 

I guess it is time for another update. I was hoping to have the engine in by now, but I decided to paint the engine bay. It feels like I'm tearing it apart more that putting it back together.

Brake lines and e-brake cables are finished.

I'm not sure if I want to buy aftermarket seats or reuse the original seats. Anyone have any thoughts?

 

awesome front brakes, i hope they are getting an upgrade when the budget allows.

Looks like it came out really well, the workmanship looks top notch.

I would look into aftermarket seats with provisions for the harness, but thats not needed until you race the car. Stock will do just fine for now.

The stock brakes have served me well in the past. I decided to wait and see how it stops with manual brakes. Maybe then I'll upgrade if needed.

I was thinking that if I bought aftermarket seats, I would have to get the Aluminum Kirkey pro street seat. I'm set on getting racing harnesses though.

 

I've been 152mph in the 1/8 on the stock front brakes and not used the 'chute. With slicks and skinnies the rear brakes do more than the front, I actually run more rear bias(as do many other drag cars). Wilwood drag set-up in the back though.

I love my kirkey seat.

It's coming along slow, but I'm making progress. I've welded closed most of the factory holes in the engine bay. I think I'm going to make some removable filler panels to cover up the access holes to the parking lights. Then, cover over the factory battery trays with some sheet metal. Anyone know what gage sheet metal I would need? I also plan to make a new upper radiator mount.

New Waterford is about a half hour south of Youngstown. Close to PA.

 

for some things like covering battery box etc,you dont want to add weight. if your lookin at an all out racer, weight is the last thing you wanna put in there. but if you want to id use some thin metal. no bigger than 16 gauge.

 

I was looking at the car tonight and I think I have a plan. I want to cut the spot welds that are holding the battery trays, and completely remove them. I bought some 18 gage cold rolled sheet metal to recover the areas smooth. Now, if I just had some time...

 

that would work good. look good to.

 

Battery trays are out! Hopefully tomorrow I can get a pattern made and transfer it to the new sheetmetal. Maybe this weekend I'll have it all welded up.

Battery delete trays are in. Most of the holes filled. Wiring block filled and relocated to behind fender. Trimmed corners of core support and inner fender. Most of the welding is finally done! I stopped counting holes I filled at about 50.

Next up is the radiator support. Here on thirdgen I seen a nice chrome one someone had on there car. I think it was for a Chevelle or something. I wonder if it was a direct bolt on. Otherwise I will make one out of stainless or aluminum.

After that, hopefully body filler and paint.

 

 

Nice job! I like the wiring placement. Simple but effective at cleaning it up.

 

I hate body work! I'm really glad to see it in primer finally. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll get some red paint on it.
