lowered and slicks?
my plan is to run the following
jegs 15x8 draglite type wheels with a 4.5 bs 235/60/15 mt et street tire out back,
the rear suspension consists of a moser 9" with ls1 rear brakes, sportline springs, lakewood lower control arms with relocation brackets, a adj lakewood panhard bar...
i am wondering if i will have any problems with the tire suspension deal.. rubbing etc, if not how well do you think that size tire will hook?
thanks! adam

Re: lowered and slicks?
I wouldn't bother with that small a tire. Get some 15x10 with 5.5bs and run the 275/50 drag radial. Otherwise run the 275/60 if you want to run a 28" tire. But if this is a track only setup, no reason not to get a 28x10.50 stiff sidewall slick on a 15x8 with 5.5bs or a 15x10 with 5.5bs

Re: lowered and slicks?
its a street strip car, 355 afrs stealthram, xfi 292 cam and 4.56 gears....
manual..
im worried about it being lowered with the sportlines, i want to keep the tires out of the fenders........ while still hooking and good traction, would love to carry the fronts through the 60ft mark lol....i know, big dreams....
so what tire size would ya reccomend, considering what i got, will the 5.5 bs interfere with the ls1 calipers? and will it be ok for the fender lip?
thanks!

All of the 15" rims will interfere with the ls1 calipers, you have to grind them rather significantly to make the welds fit. Look on ls1tech.com for pics of it. Fender lip has to be rolled as well.
Personally I'd go 15x9 rim with 5.5bs and 28x10.50 ET drag with stiff sidewall, usually would be shown as 28x10.5S in a catalog. That would be a good choice with the 4.56 gears no doubt. You also may have to pound the inner front section of the wheelhousing, but I've posted pics about this in the past.

Re: lowered and slicks?
with those springs out back you cant run any bigger than 26" tire which will hook plenty for that car. Atleast on my car being lowered about an inch an a half out back
i have prokit springs and the biggest tire i could possibly run is maybe a 27" but i use 26.
ET streets 26x10.50 or 11.50 will work fine on that car. I've been 1.41 and 1.45 with a nitrous shot off the line with these tires.
problem is you have way to much gear for those 26 " tires

Re: lowered and slicks?
My car has to be lowered an inch to 2 inches in the rear and I have no issues besides some banging/removing bump stup etc when I was running the 5.5bs on a 9" rim.

Re: lowered and slicks?
I got a 15x8 with 5.5" backspace for a 4th gen rear. Tire edge is just next to the fender lip. A roll would be ideal to keep the tire from bottoming out on the lip but my car doesnt squat, so it doesnt hit the tire at all.
Here's how low my rear sits.

I dont think a 28" would fit in there, without hitting the lip or else i'd need more backspacing to tuck it under more. I am running a 5/16" spacer to help clear the LS1 calipers which i did grind down alot

Re: lowered and slicks?
I feel a 28 would fit fine as it will have less section width for one. Secondly you're running a spacer which is pushing it to the outside, roll the lip, beat the inner section and he should have no problem at all. TONS of thirdgens are lowered with 28x10.5 so I don't see why you're posting pics to tell me different. An adjustable panhard bar to center up the rear and he'd be fine.

Re: lowered and slicks?
I'm just saying on my setup it wouldnt work without tucking it in pretty far which cant happen with the calipers. I already have used the grinder as far as i feel comfortable on these calipers... The spacer is thin and only there to help out with clearance on the caliper.
But even then there isnt alot of wheel well room in the top and especially the front/rear bottom of the wheel well, so it could rub thru suspension travel, which may not be a problem on a drag car but if you drive it on the street to the track it could bottom out
And i have prokit springs which dont even drop as far as sportlines which he is running. I'm saying i dont see it working well on his setup.
And you dont need a 28" tire anyway. Run the proper gear and a 26" tire will be the best fit

Re: lowered and slicks?
a 28" tire is a must with 4.56 gears... i have seen many lowered thirdgens runnin 28" tires it seems u need the right B.S. and maybe roll the lip a bit but i've mounted my buddy's 28x13.5(this is a BIG tire) Hoosier QTP on 15x10w/ only 4.5"b.s. just for fun and they cleared fine(my springs are stock with 1 coil removed) if they had 5.5" of b.s. i dont think the lip would even need to be rolled

Re: lowered and slicks?
thanks for the replys guy, i don't think i was clear on the rim, i am going with the summit knock offs of the weld draglites.... i dont know if they will clear the calipers better or not.....
orr89rocz, thats some good 60ft times, i think the 4.56's will be ok with the t56 6 speed, even if i hit 6th gear, i will be mainly running the 1/8 mile anyway.....
so so far half says 28", other says 26" right now it has a 245-45-17 on them, which is 25.7 or 9 i believe.. going to a 26.1 isn't too much difference...
i do have a brand new adj panhard bar ready to go in as well....
thanks guys!

Re: lowered and slicks?
Thats the thing, those gears need tall tire or else you'll be over spinning the motor at the tape, but being 1/8 mile your not to bad then.
I just like 26's as they seem to fit best on these cars, i like the way they look and they hook plenty good for most 10 second cars. I hope to push mine in the 9's next year with the stick and same tire, but i'm not expecting a better 60 foot, i'm gonna do it with top end
