Two things keping me from getting the A-arms ready . :?
1. the front ball joint - do I just hammer it out? I tried to use the pickle fork with no luck
2. The Control arm bushing - any tricks on getting those out. I would like to replace them with PST or polyurethene ?

Re: Front A-arm help

You will need a ball joint removal tool available at your local auto parts store for rent for around 160 to 180 dollars. As far as the bushings go just get them pressed out or burn the rubber out and hammer away at the outer shell that's in the control arm.

You can probably pop the balljoints out with a heavy hammer by hitting on the castle nut. Go to the local parts store and they will loan you a balljoint press to put the new ones in.

You might want to weld in a strap across where you have the yellow circles, this will help keep the control arm from distorting when you press out or press in the new bushings. As noted fire can be your friend.

Re: Front A-arm help

local parts store machine shop charged me $20 to press out 4 bushings and 2 ball joints and install new ones. $20 well spent those bushings are a Bitch to press out.

Re: Front A-arm help

Yeah, if you're replacing those ball joints, just beat the crap out of them to get them out. Just don't damage/warp the arm. Probably best to press the bushings out/in. Much harder to DIY. Make sure they don't warp the arm in the process though.
