Front tire question

Ok ive got rims that are 17*9.5 front and 18*10.5 rear. Ive never done the 2 different wheel sizes so im kinda confused on what size tires would look right on my camaro.

I know for the rear im going with 295/35-18 26" dia
but for the front should i use
255/40-17 25" dia or
255/45-17 26" dia

Thanks!

Re: Front tire question

Neither....

255 on a 9.5" rim? Too narrow. I have 275s on my 9", which are the correct sized tire for the rim.

255 is too narrow for a 9.5" wide rim.

You could run either tire. The 255 is going to fit fine on a 9.5 inch wheel. I would personally run the 25" in the front if you have the 26" out back.

Re: Front tire question

Anybody have any pics of a setup like this? 18's in back and 17's up front with tire sizes? Id just like to see what they look like before i drop 600-800 on a set of tires.

Re: Front tire question

I dont have any pictures of 3rd gens with that specific wheel and tire combo but can assure you the 255 and 9.5 will fit fine.

BMR Sales is SO wrong.....
That is the MAXIMUM width wheel, for a 255. So it's gonna be STRETCHED to fit. A 255 tread is 8.5", so it is narrower than the 9.5" rim. So its gonna look STUPID.

Look on Tirerack.com.....Research the tire manufacturer specs, to see what tire fits what width wheel.

Re: Front tire question

i did look on tirerack first and they gave the wheel width for the 255/40ZR17 at 8.5-10"

Would i be better off just going with a 275?

Tire to wheel width specs depends on WHICH tire manufacturer you go with. Some tires run wider than others, some run narrower.

I've had 255s up front, on different wheels. I'm now running 275s up front & love the increased front end grip in the corners. No more "front end plow" in hard cornering.

Do you want to go fast in a straight line? (go wide) Or go fast in corners? (go narrow)

You put "stretched" in all caps like its a big deal, a 255 on a 9.5" is almost no stretch at all. Now if you were putting a 225 or smaller on the wheel then yeah I would say that is a pretty good stretch.

Simple....Looks the TIRE MANUFACTURER specs....It is towards the upper range...Meaning it will have the sidewalls stretched out to reach. Not exactly ideal. Some of the tire manufacturer don't even say their 255 will fit that wide of a wheel.

If a 275 is "normal" on a 9" wheel....)and by "normal", I mean like 4th gens....275 on a 9" wheel, among other cars I'm sure), then going to a narrower tire on a wider wheel doesn't make any sense.

I have 275s on my 9" wheels. Perfect fit.

Again I ask.....Narrower tires on a wider wheel? Good for the 100-spoke, lowrider crowd, I guess.

I run a 225 on a 9.5" wheel for my personal vehicle. Its just personal preference
