Could I get a little tire help Please...

I have a set of 14 inch Alum slots for my 85 Trans Am. I believe they are about 7 and a half inches wide.

I am looking to get new tires for them. The fronts currently have 245's on my 15 inch wheels which look great. I like the fact they aren't really skinny or really big for the front.

What I am asking is, what would be the best tire size for the front 14 inch Alum slots?

The back of the Alum slots I want 295's on... or something just as wide or wider... I def don't want the front tires to be higher than the backs. That would be weird.

So what I am asking is what tire sizes should I order for the front and the back? Or should I take my questions to a tire pro at a jack williams or something?

Thanks

You say you are running a 245 on the front 15" rims right now but what aspect ratio? A tire size has 3 components, the cross section (235, 245...295, etc.), the aspect ratio (50,60...75, etc.) and the rim size. e.g. your stock tire size is 205/70R14. Sorry if I'm telling you things you already know but this may benefit someone else who reads it.

Honestly, I don't know of anyone who makes a tire in a 295 width for a 14" wheel and most tires that wide will require a 10" wide wheel which yours are not. I don't want to rain on ya here but from the info you gave that's what I see.

Let me know what size tires your running now and what you want to get and I can probably help since I work for Bridgestone and have a lot of resources. From what I've read it seem that you want to get a tires that are wide for good grip and maintain the stock tire height so that your speedo is accurate, is that right?

Thanks for your reply... but a little to late. I went to a local garage and they hooked me up.

I got a set of 295 50 14's for the rear and 245 50 14's or something like that for the front.

Oh and Mickey Thompson, I think good year, and maybe Bridgestone makes 295 for 14's... They are all expensive as all heck tho. Mickey Thompson was about half Good Year and Bridgestone.

That tire is big enough, looks good, and should hook up well, but you do realize it is a bias ply tire and will sacrifice a lot of handling right? Bias ply tires have been outdated for anything except drag slicks and tractor tires for twenty years, and even some slicks now feature radial construction, so someday they may will be outdated there as well.

Yeah I realize that.... I think it says there bias in the link.

In the 3 years I had my Trans Am there were about 2000 miles put on it, only 450 since last April... last time I had it in rain or snow, or even wet roads.... never.

These tires will last at least 5 or more years... and if until than they stop making them, It doesn't really matter cause I will stick the old factory wheels and tires on and I got these 14 inch slots for free anyhow.
