adjustable shocks
how many of you have the qa1 double adjustable shocks or struts?
i was looking at them on hawksthirdgenparts and realized that 24 position adjustablilility is completely rediculous.
i wouldnt even know where to start

the kind of dataloggers you would need to be able to discern between 5 and 6 in compression make them mostly useful to race teams i guess.
not to mention that higher rebound damping can make the compression seem higher damped.
you would really need a spring analyzer and suspension analyzer machine/program to make the most of these struts/shocks.
is this not true?
does anyone even have them?

Re: adjustable shocks
I've seen some 4th gen guys run them. They are mostly a drag racing shock from what I've heard. Not really made for auto-x/handling. I wouldn't know where to start with adjusting them either. It would probably involve either some R&D with expensive equiptment or alot of trial and error.

Re: adjustable shocks
all i know about shock tuning is that if you suddenly have to turn quickly (avoid a deer in the road, lets say) you want to be sure that your compression and rebound rates are not too far apart, especially that your rebound rate is not too high for your compression.
overly soft compression and stiff rebound will tend to lift the inner tire more than necessary and you loose a lot of grip.
other than that, if your rear and front rates dont match (not as simple as making the numbers the same) you run the risk of having a lot of shock induced oversteer or understeer when making panic turns.
i guess for drag racing, it would be a lot simpler, but still too many options for the average guy.
then again, the 500 dollar rear and 750 dollar front price tag keeps the average joe away...
anyone else?

Ouch. I didn't realize they were that much. For that kind of money, you could get KONIs and set of Ground Control Weight Jacks lol.

Re: adjustable shocks
Was considering a set of the VariShocks struts for my 3rd gen but the price is a little steep. Trick stuff, stiff $$ tag. http://www.cachassisworks.com Joined: Aug 2006

Re: adjustable shocks
im using the qa1's with my rear coil-over setup, but the 12 way ones. I have no complaints, they work just fine for me. My car is mostly a street car, but it handles very well.
