Not so....

I've run the BFG 295/50 on one, with zero problems. It even falls with BFGs specs, as to the recommended wheel size. And I'm not the only one, so it isn't a case of "you got lucky" either.

It is the 50 series "tall" sidewall that allows it to fit easily & safely. Were it a 40 series sidewall, then no.....A 295 wouldn't fit.

So then would i be able to put 295/50r15 on mine or doesnt the rim size matter and does the brand of tire matter or will they all be the same?

What size 15" wheel?

Look at Tirerack 295/50r15s to see whats available & what wheel size will fit that size tire.

For example....The 295/50r15 tire I took a quick look at, fits 8"-11". Unfortunately, I think the stock 3rd gen 15s are only 7" wide.

they are 205/60 but they arent stock rims. the car is a 87 gta. and form wat ive been told as long as the tire is wider than the rim it will work. but if the tire is narrower it wont.

Re: biggest tires on gta rims?

have any pics of a 295 on a 16" crosslace? how about 275's? i believe you, just want to see what it looks like. might use 295's on a differant rim for the strip and a sticky 275 for street.

The crosslace is no different (size-wise) than the 91/91 Camaro 16" wheel.

ONLY pic I have of my old Camaro is this, that kinda shows them....

Not very. They're kind of a lousy tire honestly.

In Post #3, I gave the link to the 16" version. Look before you tell someone to "chill out".

Dont get a wild hair up your *** because you think i stole your thunder by saying "I" Found it, I also said i clicked on the wrong link, and then found it, not trying to take anything away from you by saying I found it, just clicked on the wrong link, thats all. I appreciate your help, but dont feel like getting into an argument over a simple mistake.

Re: biggest tires on gta rims?

You can get Cooper Cobra G/T's in a 295/50/16 as well. Seen them listed at Summit. Cooper suggests 8-10 inch wide rims for these tires so they should fit without a problem.

Somebody is self-absorbed over WHO found it....

I was simply confused over how you "found" it, when the link was already provided....Whether it was by me or somebody else.

Re: biggest tires on gta rims?

I ran the Cobra G/Ts on my car in 235/55s when I first got them. They suck ***, hard. I was afraid to drive the car in the rain. Going to a wider tire with a harder compound doesn't make any sense at all. The BFGs that were linked are a 400 A B compound. Personally, I'd feel better with a <300 AA A in a 245/50 than either the BFG mentioned or the Cooper (I'm assuming your going for handling). IIRC, the Coopers numbers are simlar to the ratings on the BFGs.

Re: biggest tires on gta rims?

*UTQG Treadwear 40 *UTQG Traction A *UTQG Temperature A

They are a R-compound tire, so they are designed more for track use than street use.
If I had to guess, I'd say a set of the Toyos in 255/50R16 or 275/40R17s would give you alot better traction than the 295/50R16 BFGs or Coopers from looking at the UTQG ratings. But, they won't last nearly as long as the other two. My next set of tires (summer) are going to be 300 AA A. Hoping they are better than my current BFG g-Force Sports (for a little less money).

Re: biggest tires on gta rims?

well, going to a bigger size might make up for the harder compound right? i dont really want to buy some toyo ra1 295 because, like you said they wont last long.

Re: biggest tires on gta rims?

Well, get a tire in the middle of the field. I like my BFG g-Force Sports. I'm going to a Sumitomo HRT Z III this summer to try them. I don't think you'd be happy with the performance of the 295s over even the skinny RA1. Although, you'd get alot more life from them.

Re: biggest tires on gta rims?

With the RA1s being a R-compound DOT tire, I don't think you'll get much better. But I've not driven on them, so they might not be as good as they should be. Plus, on the road, they don't shine as well as they would on the track. There is a long post on cornercarvers.com that goes into tire selection, what people ran, what they think, etc. Really long and in depth read. You might be able to find something you like on there. It's where I got the idea to try the Sumitomos.

i really like that white stripe on the blue.
anyone ever run the firestone firehawk 500's?
i cant figure why they are so cheap when they put more tread on the ground than BFGoodrich of the same size. anyone know?
i'm going to get 235 60 15 for the front and 255 60 15 for the rear. even then the rear will be an inch larger than stock diameter and if i went to 275's on the rear it would be 2 inches greater. any suggestions?
and i do like that white stripe on the blue.

Thanks, but that always make me "cringe".....

It was actually a shade-shifter blue-to-purple paint job. The pics ALWAYS showed it as blue. In person, there was NEVER any question that it was purple....No idea why cameras always saw it as blue.
