Formula 350 Strut advice
Formula 350 Strut advice
I'm looking to replace the struts in my 89 Formula 350 (53k miles). I'm looking online and this isn't as easy as i had hoped. Hopefully one of you guys can help me out. I love my car but know nothing about stuff like this.
Last year i replaced the shocks with some KYB's and figured i'd hit the front with some KYB's for about $50 a pop ( for now i'm just using tirerack prices to keep it simple). Once i looked at the site i saw some Koni's for about $240+ and some Bilstein HD's for about $250+, that's a huge jump. Should i be considering these much more expensive struts? I don't do any racing, i just cruise around for maybe 2k miles per spring/summer. I just want a smoother front end than what i've had lately.
Also, do i need strut mounts too? i see them listed for the KYB's but not the ones that well over $200.
i really appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Re: Formula 350 Strut advice
I would reccomend some nicer stock replacement strut mounts at the minimun. Personally, I'd go with J&M (hotpart.com). They have a lifetime warranty and free shipping. Plus, they'll be more durable than the ones from Napa, Advance, etc and give you a better feel for the road.
Now, as for struts, how much spirited driving you do? Do you enjoy taking the twisties fast? If you just want a smoother ride and aren't terribly concerned with the handling, I'd go with the KYBs up front.

i'll look at those mounts you mentioned. As for my driving, i do a little spirited driving but not much (or much driving at all). I prefer smooth ride over tight handling. The stock struts were fine but i'd like something better going forward.

The KYBs or Tokicos would probably be what you're wanting most likely
