My 88 IROC-Z drives straight as an arrow.
But... when it does, the spokes on the
steering wheel are off about 45 degrees from
where they should be.
Any suggestions to fix this?

with the wheel in that position, where the car drives straight, in what direction in the pitman arm facing? If its not point straight back, you alignment was done improperly and needs to be re-adjusted. Or there could be some damage to the car or steering parts that are causing this issue with alignment.

If the pitman does point straight back, and the wheels turn just as far in both directions, the steering wheel is on wrong. Don't do this until you are sure nothing is wrong as described in my first paragraph.

 

try unbolting the steering wheel with the wheels straight and then re-position the steering wheel as close to straight as you can, and bolt it back on. to take off the steering wheel you need to pop the horn cover off, and disconnect the horn wire, then there should be i think 8 torx bolts holding the steering wheel on. hope this helps

 

thats not the way to go about doing this. Make sure the issue is not with the actual steering linkages first. However it is possible that the wheel was rotated so the driver could see a certain gauge better, its was most likely caused by an incompetent tech doing an alignment without centering the wheel first, or a combination of that and bent steering linkage

 

sounds to me like your alignment is off. u don't want to screw around with the steering tho so unless u really know what ur doing..I'd take it to the dealership.

 

The center mark on my steering column shaft is off by about 10-20* clockwise, but my wheels are straight, is this a sign of needing an alignment?

 

to fix have it re-aligned...they will straighten steering wheel...pretty easy fix....but that is if steering wheel is on correctly....
they will adjust both front tire rod ends to correct wheel straightness.....in on one side and out on another side....
