What to do??

Specifically - I am looking to gut out an 86 Camaro with a 2.8 liter and repaint. I then want to transplant the engine, trans, & rear end from a wrecked donor 86 IROC. My question is - without breaking the bank (or robbing one) to pay for all new suspension; is there a comparable suspension from a newer model vehicle that I would do better to go to a salvage yard to get?

And yes - I am new to this...

Re: What to do??

Not really - anything at the JY is going to be just as worn as what you have. Make sure to grab the "wonderbar" from the donor IROC if available - that's the only piece that could be salvaged fro another car.

Re: What to do??

If you've got access to a Irocz donor car, I'd grab the entire front crossmember, and the steering gear, springs, the front brake lines, motor mounts, etc. Just unbolt the struts from the towers, and the K member from the body and take the works. While you're at it, snag the front and rear sway bars, and the rear mounting brackets if your car doesn't already have them, and the rear springs. Throw all of that into your 6cyl project and it'll have the entire Iroc suspension.

All that stuff should cost you very little, most of it gets crushed most of the time.

Re: What to do??

oh yes- I have the whole car; I just wasn't sure if I should take from it- since it's a 25 year old car as well, or look for say a 4th gen or even a Caddy for the suspension (if they were compatable).

Feel free to throw any & all advice; this is my first time doing a project so I appreciate any/all words of wisdom!
