1982 Camaro project.
1982 Camaro project.
Howdy,
I'm looking to do a total restoration of a 1982 model (from bare metal and up),
have not yet bought the car just begun gathering information.
Any and all input, advice and suggestion from ya'll would be greatly aprechiated.
I'll start out with my questions and for the bored and curious i'll elaborate a little at the bottom.
First of all i want to upgrade safety and handling related stuff.
I've been looking at a whole bunch of different options from "complete" after market subframes to just bushing upgrade.
But after reading all the manufacturers mumbojumbo i find my self in need of input from people with user experience.
Btw, I would like to lower it a couple inces.
What could/should i do with the suspension for about $1000-$2000?
(Or should i spend more?!?!!)
For brake upgrade i've been looking at wilwood and bear 12" disks kits.
Hers a link to a picture i found that pretty much look like what i want the end result to look like, maybe not that color etc... but i love the ground effects, the spoiler and the rims (anyone recognize what size those are?):

For the "3rd gen" is there big changes between the 1982 and 1992 chassis?
(when its stripped to bare metal)
In time i'll post my other questions under the apropriate thread.
You may wonder, why a 1982 and not newer?
Well I live in a socialist country that sodomize your pocketbook with taxes if you want anything with a bit more cubic inches and power than a 100cu.in. "leaf blower" engine.
However "old" cars (>30y old from date of first registration) are exempt from the most painful taxes.... And by the time this project is done, a 1982 would most likely be 30+ (didn't they start selling these in mid 1981?)

those look like 18" rims. the Ls1 brakes are 12", cheap, and easy to do. look here...http://www.bmrfabrication.com/F3.htm

That's Sinister Z's 85 IROC... Beautiful car!! His rim's are the Boze "Octane" 18's. I'm sure he'd be happy to fill you in on more about his car (as would anyone on this forum) .
