285/40/17 on rear of Formula Firebird

Has anyone put a set of 285/40/17 on 17x9.5 on the back of their Firebird? Did they fit without rubbing? Were mods needed? Thanks

Yes they will fit but it is close. A good frined of mine runs that same size tire on a 10 spoke 9.5" SS take off wheel. He runs a 4th gen rear so the specs are not identicle to that of a 3rd gen but close enough. He runs the sportlines springs by the way. I run a 275/40 on a 17x9 wheel with the sportlines and I could go slightly bigger if I wanted.
