disc brake rearends
Have acquired two disc brake rearends while the site was down. One, a 9 bolt posi unit, I have found is hard to find gears for. The other, a ten bolt posi unit, i plan to put under mu '84 Z28 this week. Removed inspection cover to verify gear ratio. Can't find the "refill" hole i'm accustomed to using to add gear oil. Do I have to refill before I reinstall the cover? How do I know how much gear oil to add? Anybody need a 9 bolt unit?

The fill hole on a 10 bolt is a plug on the right side of the case. Fill to the level of the hole. It takes about 2 Liters/quarts. I just yanked out my 9 bolt in favour of a beefed up 10 bolt. The 9 bolt was surviving my drag racing but the 3.27 gears sucked and 3.70 wasn't enough.

Hey, RussMan... If you're looking to ditch that 9-bolt, let me know. What gears, etc. does it have in it?
I may be interested in that axle, if the costs aren't too high. Might even drive down to get it...

Russman, that 10-bolt sounds like the 1984 3.73/posi/disc axle I just put under my 2.8 Firebird! The brakes were a pain- I got a bad rebuilt master cylinder.

Found the "refill." Right where it was supposed to be. 9-bolt is out of an '86 T/A. 2.77 gears. Posi. Planning to advertise in the paper for $200 or so. Let me know if you're interested.
