SAE to metric brake lines: When?
I just put an '86 rear end in my '82, and had to put in '82 brake cylinders to get the lines to match up. I noticed this difference with the fronts when I did the orginal engine swap.
Any idea what year the change occurred? I kept the '86 front brake parts, but not sure if the master cylinder/proportioning valve/calipers would fit the '82. If I try to sell, would like to be able to tell the buyer they'll fit his year.

I guess that makes us 82's and 83's unique, as if that's worth anything.
The change occured sometime in mid 84. I have an 84 (built 10/83) that has metric lines and i bought a rear end from an 84 tht had SAE. I just re-flared the end that connects to the brake hose instead of replacing all the components

Thanks for the info. I was going the other way, so flaring wasn't an option. I like the look of the metric fitting better, but wasn't willing to do the complete changeout that would have been required.
Good ol' GM, with their mid-year changes. Gotta love 'em.

You can buy metric-SAE conversion fittings from racecar plumbing suppliers such as Truesports Racing. I think Aeroquip makes the fittings.

I figured somebody made them, but didn't want to spend the time finding such things. I spent $14 getting two new wheel cylinders from Parts America on-line after their 25% discount and picked up the parts a the local Checker. Other than struggling with that pesky clip on the 1st side (other side was quick after I figured out how to do it), that seemed to make more sense than trying to find adapters on short notice.
I'll keep that info handy, though, for future reference.
Thanks again, all.
