Emergency Brake
Emergency Brake
I bought a 86 TA to fix up, and the rear drums have been replaced with discs. They are installed correctly, but i need to add a preportioning valve to make them work correctly. Now, i have noticed that the emergency brake cable is not hooked up to anything. I was reading the the repair manual that the 87 and on with rear discs had a different emergency braking system. Do i need to get all the parts from that system to hook the emergency brake cable up to the new brakes or can i use the older system (which may not all be there either) I can't figure out what i need to do. Any help would be appriciated greatly. Thanks

Nah, you've got the same rear brake setup (single piston) in the back. Since you're ripping it all apart, why not do what I did? Get all new e-brake cables and brake hoses from carparts.com. A word of advice- when I placed my order in August, carparts.com had no more bendix brake cables. It took them 2 weeks to figure out that they should send me Raybestos cables.
Order the Raybestos ones to get 'em faster. And search the internet for "carparts.com coupon", you can find some really good ones! I had a $50 off $100 order one, and got all my stuff for around $62.
