Can anyone tell me if a '84 Z-28 with L-69 has a quicker ratio steering box than a '83 base Firebird ??...

The 84 Z28 box is a Saginaw 800 series 12:1 (fast ratio) while the 83 'Bird can have either a Saginaw 605 series or 800 series standard ratio unit.

So how do I tell which one I have ??...

 

First is to check the adjusting nut cover. Is it round and held in place with a snap ring (605 series) or rectangular and held in place with 4 bolts (800 series) If it is an 800 series, count the turns lock to lock. Let me know what you have.

okay, my parts car is 2.5 turns lock to lock and my Firebird is 3 turns lock to lock...So I guess that means the parts car has the 800 and MY Firebird has the 605 huh ??...
