is this true?
Hey guys, I wanna get new struts and shocks for my 1991 Trans Am vert. I'm probably getting KYB GR-2s because I heard strong reviews about their bang-for-the-buck. Anyway, I heard that the old springs can make the car drop by an inch over time and can prematurely wear out the new shocks. I think my springs are original, judging by the surface rust on them. Is that true? Should I get new springs while I'm at it? My ride height seems normal.

i would think that over time they probebly would drop some. but i cant see how that would effect the life of the struts

Yeah that's what I thought but that's what I heard. What kind of springs would you guys recommend? Stock ride is fine, I just want something freshened up, like "new stock." Money is tight... so cheap would be nice lol. I might lower my car by 1/2 inch or so but I'm afraid of bottoming out on speed bumps and such since this thing isn't gonna be a garage queen once she's on the road.

i would think that your stock springs are fine.. i wouldnt replace em unless they really needed it. those things can stay good for a long dam time. the only problems ive ever had with a spring is that one year i went to leave the house and it actually broke in half. the only other thing is that it is cheaper and much easier to buy the whole assembly. then you dont have to mess around takin all of it apart. i found springs can be more expensive then the whole spring strut ***.

its cheaper to buy the whole assembly, it comes with new springs and averything you need..the new ones will be painted i would assume so if you want to change the color. then something from a spray can would probebly work best because it goes on so thin you wont have to worry about cracking
