Just had welded on ALSTON SBC/ WOW what a diffenence!
Just had a set of ALSTON subframe connectors installed. I have a good friend of mine that owns several Midas shops and can make welds that look like they came from the factory. You can bolt these in, but they will always need to go over and tighten the bolts from time to time. I know this thread has been around for awhile but just wanted to share a recent convert. First was the drivers side. All the undercoating had to be removed and then the frame ground down to remove most of the galvanized finish. After using a hammer to make adjustments in the fit, it was good to go. The bracket for the fuel filter needs a different hole but that was it for this side. The passenger side does require you to drop the exhaust system. The same cleaning and grinding has to be done and also some floor pan banging was needed to clear, but for the most part the ALSTON design and fit was quite good. This job did take about 4 hours (I have Edelbrock TES headers which required some extra adjustment) but if your not too fussy it may take less. After some paint touch-up on the bars it was time for a test run. As soon as it went over some rough spots it became clear it felt like a much heavier car. Gone was the bounce and shake that made it feel like riding in a Sunfire. Now it was replaced by a firm and solid chassis. I would highly recommend this to anyone as this is my show car and ride quality is just as important as handling. My ground clearance is 4" which is better than my dual cats which have 3 1/2". I hope this was not too long to read, but I wanted to cover all the bases on these ALSTON designs.
