best brake upgrade for the $$$

I need some new brakes pronto, so i decided to upgrade the rotors and calipers while i'm at it. Baer's are the accepted megabuck upgrade but i can't afford that much. Anybody try http://www.gtrotors.com/products.html#bigbrake or anything reasonably priced other than stock? I'm just driving on the street now but its always a good idea to get the best you can afford i've found. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!.

Stock size rotors and the single piston cast calipers just aren't enough for these heavy cars. If you plan on doing any serious braking they just won't cut it. I'm doing a 1LE conversion right now, 12" rotors and twin piston PBR aluminum calipers. In retrospect, I may have gone with a Baer kit for $400 more. No tracking down parts hoping it will work, and no other BS like that.

Now I know people are gonna say, "C'mon Jay, not everyone can afford to spend all kinds of money on brakes..." Ok, now think about it. Ever driven a C4 Corvette? They're lighter than thirdgens yet have bigger brakes. Why? Is it overkill? NO! Don't you like pressing on the pedal and being able to come close to lockup without worrying if you're gonna be able to stop? IMHO, if you're going to make your car fast, theres no excuse not to have good brakes so it can stop fast too.

Stainless Steel Brakes sells an 1LE upgrade kit for our cars which came with the regular front disc brakes for about $989.

I just received my upgrade kit from SS Brakes last Monday. I probably wont install em until March.
