If someone has the necessary books, can you look up a couple numbers off of a pair of steering gear boxes?
Ideally, I'd like to find out the steering ratios. Lock-to-lock doesn't tell me what I want to know and I can't manually count the ratio (or can I?)
The first one is 7826692 and the side next to the pitman arm has a stylized "S" in a box on it.
& the second is 36600525 and has a big ol' "2" in the same place.

Those numbers were taken from right next to the cover plate and if they're the wrong numbers needed, just say which and I can put them up.

That looks like the standard Z28 steering box with 2.5 turns lock-to-lock. That's the number on the one I took out of my '83 Z28. The high performance one (IROC etc.) has 2.25 turns. The ratio does not make a whole lot of difference, but the quicker one has a better "feel". You should be able to tell the differnce by counting turns of the steering wheel. If you are looking for one in a junkyard, you want one from a 85-92 F-Body with 16" wheels. Count the turns to be sure.

Thanks, but about one day too late..

I already put it in and you're right, it was the 2.5 lock-to-lock. Not what I was looking for, but a nice improvement from what was in there. And since it was free, no complaints.

It came out of an 85 Z-28 Pace Car which must have been one badass car in its day.
