Pwer steering Question.

As a result Of a leaky pump, I have been Driving For about a Month Now With My Power steering Removed. I have actually Gotten Used To it and Now, When I drive a car with Power steering, I almost feel out of control. Especially at high speed.

What I want to know is, Is there any Way to Make My PS Work, but Not quite as well, So to speak ?

Be Not So "pwerful" such that It is easy enough To steer In parking lots and stuff ( where i have trouble now W/o it ) But at high Speed, The steering Is stiff enough that a slip of the hand wont send you Hurtling into the guard rail ( like my friend's vette )

Some Sort Of Variable assist mechanism or something ?

TIA.

Seems to me that you'd have to slow the pump down.. maybe you could have a machine shop turn a different pulley for you on a lathe? I assume the new pulley would have to be larger....

Yeah, A Larger Pulley would Slow Down the pump, But would that Stiffen up the steering ?

Good thinking tho, Never occured to me

Flaming river makes a Vega style manual gear box. Weighs 12 lbs thats 45 lbs less than power steering. They make a kit to intall it in our cars. I have it and its real nice. Not as hard as power steering when its gone out and not too easy to turn either.
