Front ends are aligned to within a 1/4 of a degree. UMMMMMMMMM, I would probably say yes.

Actually, now its w/ a 1/10 of a degree. If you have already done it, I hope you plan on getting an alignment in the very near future.

If you disturb the ball joints, the tie rod ends, the strut mounts, or the control arm bushings, it will change your alignment. Besides, what kind of logic would it be to spend $200 on a kit, however much trouble or money to install it, and then not even check to see what direction the wheels are pointed? Seems like a bad place to try to save some pennies.

I've seen those alignment specs down to the tenth of a degree too... strikes me as rather humorous on a car that you can put up on a rack and just grab the wheel and move it ½ degree in any direction by hand, and where you can change the reading on an alignment machine more even than that by leaning on a fender, so when the driver actually gets in and sits down, the vehicle is out of spec by like three times the supposed tolerance, and the difference between drivers is equal to twice the tolerance. IMHO that is a wonderful example of "measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with dynamite" Can you tell I don't think too much of FWD cars?

Yeah, I work at a Buick, GMC, BMW, and Mercedes Dealership (Just GM for me), and Mercedes said they would no longer pay for alignments under warranty if we didn't by the newest, most expensive alignment machine from Hunter. Its so sweet. The sensor heads are now "wireless", it explains everything for you, no brainwork involved, etc... Ya just got to get that extra 1/10 in there!

GMTech, I worked at a dealership for a short while and used a Hunter 411 or something like that. Damn Cadillac techs get all the good stuff. The Hunter 411 had wireless heads but the passenger rear head always lost communication with the machine. I have also used a Hunter 311 and 111. The 111 is sweet! You can align the car and change the specs without recompensating the heads! Mo money Mo money. HA HA HA! Most specs were usually plus or minus .25 on toe, so thats wher that number came from. Nice talkin tech with someone who really knows their ****.

I don't know what the model number is, but its the latest and greatest. It has a computer based program that we used to used "win-align" be now we have an even better one. It even has a remote control so you can make adjustments, or turn the wheels back and forth for caster measurement and never leave the side of the car, its soooo sweeet. I actually started doing alignments again when we got it. I quite doing alignments because our old machine was a piece of crap and if adjustments needed to be made, I would loose my @ss, especially with "knock-outs" if they have not been done. I don't mind any more.

One of my little brothers works at a tire store, he's always complaining about the alignment machine, some kind of Hunter; he says the techs can make alot of money when it works right (rare) but get skinned when it acts squirrelly (most of the time). But tell me, just because the machine can measure to the tenth, can you actually use that kind of precision, and if so what cars are that precise? Seems like lots of cars, even ones in good shape, you can just back off the rack and pull back on and it will change half a degree and a couple tenths of toe.

Your right, GM car usually are pretty forgiving. They give you alot of leway. Like the caster for my car is 4.8*, but as long as I am between 4.3 and 5.3 (+/- .5) I'm OK. Same for camber and toe.

The Mercedes are a little more demanding, and thats why we had to get the new machine. They also have to make a few more measurements (like ride height) before they can even start the alignment. I don't know anybody that checks ride height on a GM.
