Weird Traction

I have a Z-28 with a 350 and the rear spins at the weirdest times. Its not a posi, which is part of the problem, but the right rear spins too easily. I can break it loos in first at 1300 RPM! The other tire stays planted most all the time. Where is my problem? Brakes, Suspension? I drove a similar car with an open rear end and it didn't have a big problem with traction at all. Oh by the way I have 3.23 gears and a 5 speed

Well, either its not a Z rear end or your posi is worn to crap. All Z's came w/ a posi rear, hence both your tires should be spinning when you break loose. That's all I can say for that.

I agree with chevyboy, especially w/ 3:23 gears, check your rpo's for G80, if you have it then your posi unit is probably trash, but there is some good news, you can get an SLP take-off for $99.

I'm afraid not all Z's came posi. Check your numbers. G90 or G92 will get you posi, and a few others, I think.

I've got a 350 z28 automatic with posi 3.23 and I can break loose at 30mph. 1300rpm isn't $hit.

uh you guys must be dyslexic because he said he DID NOT have a posi. a couple of questions though.......Are you turning when it happens because even if he has a posi they sometimes act like an open because the inside tire spins faster than the outside... thats the way they are built(all of them). next have you done any mods to the car? next up is...are you dropping the clutch or easing out? and finally how much is the rear spinning? just a little bark or slippage or like prolonged spinning?

They aren't dyslexic, they acknoledged that he said he had a posi and they were informing him they thought he was incorrect and he should have a posi. Whether he actually has a posi or not, I'm not sure, but I would think a 350 Z would come with a posi.

If you have an open rear end, it could either be crappy rear tires, suspension set up improperly, or you just have a strong car that is capable of that. If you do in fact have a posi (check the RPO codes), you're posi may be on the way out. Do you by chance have two different brands of tires on the back of your car? My GTA did when I bought it, and it would spin the right rear twice as long as the left (have the pictures to prove it). I thought my posi was on the way out unti I took both rear tires off and sat them next to each other. The right rear was a full inch shorter than the left, causing it to spin faster.... and longer.

I just noticed, you said you have a 350 and a 5 speed... what's not original, the 350, or the 5 speed?
