factory rear disc swap

I have access to an 84 LG4 Camaro with F41 suspension. It has rear disc from the factory (I checked the RPO sticker on the console, VIN matched). To do the swap into my non disc 84 Firebird I think I need the following from the donor car:
rear end( complete obviously)
rear parking brake cables( from the T-connector back)
proportioning valve
master cylinder
Is this all I need to do the swap? Also, who makes a good rear disc upgrade kit? I plan on moving to larger discs all around after I really get into the car. But for now the factory rear disc will do the job.

Yep, that's the stuff you need. If you click on the "search" word near the top right of this screen, and look for "rear disc", you can find a lot of info on the swap.

Luckily you're doing an 84 into an 84- the front-to-rear hard steel brake line shouldn't have to be changed. (You'll find this info here if you search for "prop valve".)

If I were you though, I'd buy new rear parking brake cables, and new rear brake hoses. I searched (wow I've typed this alot, eh?) http://www.yahoo.com for "carparts.com coupon", and used a "$50 off $100" order to buy that kind of stuff. My $110 order only cost me $60! And yah the rear disc axle uses two brake hoses; one for axle-to-body, and one for the right rear caliper.

I also rebuilt the rear calipers, using a rebuild kit from "Auto Specialities" (through http://www.expressautoparts.com ). The kit has the seals used in the caliper. The rebuild is covered in the 82-92 Haynes Camaro (or Firebird) manual, and it copies word-for-word what's in my GM Service manual. When I rebuilt the calipers, I also bought from carparts.com a "Bendix caliper hardware kit", part # H5611 - it had the slides & bushings for both rear calipers for only $7! I also bought two new rear caliper mounting bolts (aka guide pin), Bendix # H5014, $6 each. Yup, the mounting bolts are a tiny bit different than the front caliper mounting bolts- I looked into that.

And (heh) finally, I also replaced the rear axleshaft bearings (commonly misnamed "rear wheel bearings) and seals. Search for "rear bearing puller" on the Transmission/Drivetrain board to find out how I and RB83L69 swapped our bearings out.

Oh by the way, bleeding the master cylinder is a major pain in the butt.

Thanks TomP for the info. I am going to have to do a lot to the rear end once I get it. The engine in the car threw a rod about 6 years ago and just got dumped in the salvage yard. The thing is covered in rust and corrosion.
I think it will be easier and cheaper in the long run to just replace the calipers and start from scratch with them.
I am going to send out the rear to be rebuilt and regeared in expectation of the v8 swap that will soon come.
As far as lines and cables, I was thinking of getting stainless steel components from someone line Stainless Steel Brakes.

Sounds good; also, http://www.classictube.com makes all the brake lines in both normal & stainless. They sell the two axle lines separately, so you don't have to buy the whole package (unless of course you want to).

The '84 brake system was the first year to use metric fittings, and to also use the ISO "bubble" flare... 82-83 brake lines/calipers/etc won't be a match to the system you have.

Thanks for the tip on the new fittings for 84. I would have replied sooner, but military duties called. My timeline just got a major update as I received orders for Korea. Be gone a year starting July. Seems like the perfect time to have the car torn down and start my restification.

84 V6 Firebird in sad, but mechanically sound shape. Currently gathering parts for a performance restoration, i.e. restore the body and interior, then stuff as much HP under the hood as possible.
Any body know of a good resto shop??
